Davis, California. This female raised three juveniles in a Cottonwood tree along an irrigation drainage canal. Mockingbird, kingbirds and blackbirds found the nest and made their life miserable. The female battled them to keep them away from the rapidly growing juveniles. One morning when I was in my blind photographing from the canal's edge, the female and her 3 chicks abandoned the exposed nest and literally walked down the bark of the 50' tree, walked another 20 yards down the edge of the canal and walked up another tree that provided much more protection from the pecking passerines. This photograph was taken in their new home.
