We found both the male and female Great-gray Owls near a nest in a previous (2 year-ago) burn area in British Columbia's interior. The floor of the forest was a carpet of new plant life and voles and the hunting for this pair appeared to be easy. In the vicinity of the nest we observed soot covered young chicks. Clearly they had collided with soot-covered trees in the process of learning to fly.
