Deep in an old-growth forest, we came upon a tree that had been sheared off by storms. About 30' up at the top was the fracture where a pair of Great Grays had established a nest. The bird on the right (presumably the female) was incubating 2-3 eggs and the bird on the left was bringing Red Tree voles. We stayed on this nest all afternoon and late into the evening and observed two food deliveries by the male, several hours apart. On the second delivery we observed the female wake up and prepare to receive the male although we heard no sound until the male whooshed in to the clearly to deliver dinner.
